Health Minister inspects treatment centers in operation for Covid suppression programme

On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi inspected the Covid Treatment Facilities in the Ratnapura District yesterday (08). A number of Covid Treatment Centers are being constructed island wide under the Covid Suppression Program implemented by the Ministry of Health. Accordingly, facilities for Covid Infected Patients at the Leadership Training Covid Treatment Center, Embilipitiya Hospital, Rakwana Hospital, Kahawatta Hospital in the isolated Embilipitiya police area were observed by the Minister of Health. The Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi instructed the health officials to increase the capacity of the ICU and HDU beds at the Embilipitiya Hospital. Further she said, “The Ministry of Health has decided to set aside one ward in hospitals island wide for Covid treatment services. Appointing 09 Deputy Directors General of Health Services to coordinate the Covid eradication program at the provincial level, I instructed them to go to all the provinces to monitor the program and take immediate action to provide the necessary facilities,” At present, 105 Covid Treatment Centers have been established island wide. Nearly 19,000 beds have been reserved for those infected at these centers. Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Lakshmi Somatunga, Additional Secretary (Ministry of Health) of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Director of Health Services and Mr. Akila Ellawala, Member of Parliament for Ratnapura District were also present during the visit.
