The report containing the recommendations of the five-member committee appointed by Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi to look into the present operational status of the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, including its processes and activities, and to enhance its efficiency, was handed over on 22 January.
The committee comprised former Ministry Secretary Seetha Vithanarachchi (Chairperson), Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage, Dr. Bandula Wijesiriwardana, Sarath Palitha Fernando PC, and Ministry of Health Director General of Finance H. Swarnathilaka.
A total of 36 short- and long-term recommendations have been made in this report, which also identified issues in the hospital concerning the processes followed by the hospital’s Director Board, the Hospital Board Act, the hospital’s administration and management, financial management, and services provided, in addition to issues identified in general audits.
Wanniarachchi, speaking on the occasion, said that further steps would be taken after studying the committee’s recommendations.
