Health officials order hotel quarantine for migrants despite complete vaccination and negative PCR results

01 Jul 2021

By Mihi Perera Video evidence has been released of a group of Sri Lankan migrants who had returned to the island recently being denied the possibility to go to their homes despite having returned following complete vaccination and negative PCR results which were obtained before returning to the island. The migrants said that the health officials were ordering that they be taken to paid hotel quarantine even when it was ensured that they had finished their vaccination abroad. "This is very unjust. We do not have money to pay for hotel quarantine with the high price of air tickets. We have worked hard to return to the country, and this is how we're being treated," one of the migrants said. They also said that the health officials were insisting that rapid antigen and PCR tests be conducted in Sri Lanka while being admitted to hotel quarantine.
