The Joint Health Workers' Union (JHWU) staged a protest in front of seven government hospitals yesterday (3) demanding the reinstatement of non-permanent health workers who have already completed their probation period currently working in government-owned health institutions including government hospitals across the country.
The protests were held in front of the Kegalle General Hospital, Kalutara Nagoda General Hospital, Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital, Kandy National Hospital, Colombo National Hospital, Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila), and Nuwara Eliya General Hospital.
These protests were held as the Government had not taken any steps to make permanent all non-permanent health workers.
JHWU General Secretary Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera told The Morning that there were about 3,000 non-permanent health workers across the country.
