Health Trade Unions' strike continues for second day

The strike launched by several health unions including the nurses' unions will continue for the second day today (02). Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera of the Public Service United Nurses' Union said that it was decided to continue the strike today as the authorities did not provide proper solutions yesterday (01). The convener of the Government Nurses Association, Saman Ratnapriya stated that the strike will be carried out in a manner that will not disrupt essential services. However, the Secretary of the Government Medical Officers 'Association, Dr. Senal Fernando, denies allegations that the nurses' union is trying to sabotage the trade union action. Public Service United Nurses Association, Government Nurses launched the strike based on the demands of granting promotions to nurses every 5 years, getting a 5 day working week instead of a 6 day working week like other government employees and providing quick solutions to the problems faced by the nurses in the face of the Covid pandemic. The strike was launched by the Officers' Union and the All Ceylon Nurses' Union.
