Brief Scores of the 5th ODI, SL v Eng at Khettarama on Tuesday, 23 October: Sri Lanka 366 for 6 (Dickwella 95, Chandimal 80, Kusal Mendis 56, Samarawickrama 54) beat England 132 for 9 (Stokes 67, Dananjaya 4-19, Chameera 3-20) by 219 runs (by DLS method) Dinesh Chandimal made his first ODI half-century in 18 innings (Photo: Pradeep Dambarage) Records * Sri Lanka inflicted upon England the heaviest defeat in terms of runs (219) in their ODI history. * Coming into the match Sri Lanka had not won any of their five most recently completed ODIs. * Sri Lanka’s top four batsmen scored half-centuries for the first time in the same ODI since 1998. * 366 was Sri Lanka’s highest-ever ODI total against England. * This was Sri Lanka’s highest since they scored 377 against Ireland in June 2016. * The 219-run win by Sri Lanka: Only 21 times has an ODI been decided by a larger run margin. About half of those results were from games between Full Members and Associate Members. * Sri Lanka passed 300 for only the second time in their 31 most recent ODIs. * Niroshan Dickwella and Sadeera Samarawickrama provided Sri Lanka’s first century opening stand since July 2017. * The 107 England conceded in the first 15 overs was the most scored off them since South Africa made 111 in February 2016. * Kusal Mendis scored his first ODI half-century since June 2017 (after 24 innings). He came into the match having scored 0, 0, 0 and 5 in his four most recent ODI innings. * Dinesh Chandimal made his first ODI half-century in 18 innings. * Chandimal reached his 50 at a strike-rate better than a run a ball for the first time since The Oval ODI in June 2016. His final score (80) was his highest in ODIs since August 2016. * The Curran brothers –Tom and Sam-- played international cricket together for the first time.
