During the search of the new detention unit of the Kuruwita Prison Hospital on Monday (05) under the supervision of two jailors, 180 mg of heroin was seized from a suspect which was hidden in his mouth, stated Prisons Spokesman Chandan Ekanayake.
Further, the police found 04 grams and 70 milligrams of heroin wrapped in wax paper.
The suspect has been remanded by the Balangoda Magistrate's Court on a charge of possession of heroin.
The suspect had been handed over to the Kuruwita Police Station on the same day for further legal action and the suspect was detained at a special unit at the Prison Hospital.
A preliminary investigation has been launched into the incident.
