Due to the betrayal towards the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party, it is only unfit that “Political Orphans” MP Harin Fernando and MP Manusha Nanayakkara be taken back into the SJB for whatsoever reason, says Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya (SVB) member Hirunika Premachandra. She made this statement in a letter addressed to the SJB Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara today (30). "The SVB is requesting the SJB party not to accept political orphans Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara back into the party as they have betrayed the ethics and policies of the party. As a female political party, we are requesting the secretary to take into consideration this request as the SVB is concerned about the future of the country and the citizens as well," said Ms Premachandra. She further noted 3 points which were brought up by the SJB in parliament recently as policies of the party. 1. Based on the current economic situation in the country, the SJB had offered to assist the Government by providing economic advice to the relevant Parliamentary Economic Committee, the Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Public Finances. 2. It is in the interest of the country that the present interim government seeks to rebuild the economy through Parliamentary procedures, taking action the advice and suggestions of the SJB, who have committed to provide full support to the interim government without the acceptance of Ministerial Portfolios. 3. The SJB had committed to assist the government without the acceptance of ministerial portfolios and if any MP from the party was offered a position, they would turn it down and only support the government through the form of advice of the expertise panel. Ms Premachandra noted that the aforementioned points were stated in Parliament so that the government is aware of the stance of the party and as MP Manusha Nanayakkara and MP Harin Fernando had failed to adhere to the SJB party ethos, their membership within the party would have to be revoked and not re-accepted for whatsoever reason in the future. Premachandra further noted in her letter that the unfortunate event that took place on the 9th of May was to be discussed in the near future with the relevant authorities and that the SJB should assist the government in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
