Holding PC elections not favourable to Govt. at this juncture: Jagath Kumara

20 Oct 2021

Holding the Provincial Council elections would not be favourable for the Government right now until an Act is brought in and the electoral system is amended, said Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) backbencher MP Jagath Kumara. He mentioned this during a media brief held yesterday (19). "We all know that a Provincial Council election is not favourable to the Government. Also, the election cannot be held until an Act is brought in and the electoral system is brought in. That will be done only by January or February of next year. The people must also be given some concessions before an election is held, which will also take another 7-8 months," said Kumara. Kumara went on to state that once the people are given concessions, the people will agree that the Government is making decisions for the benefit of the nation, and the Provincial Council elections can be won by the Government.
