Home quarantine prominent in new rules

18 Mar 2021

  • 10 days at govt. quarantine centre, 4 days home quarantine

  • 7 days hotel quarantine, 7 days home quarantine

  • Direct home quarantine for business travellers

By The Morning News Desk   Home quarantine has been permitted and encouraged for returnees and tourists under the revised health guidelines which are expected to come into effect over the next few days with the formal approval of the Director General of Health Services. Sources at the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) told The Morning last (17) evening that travellers who opt for state-run quarantine centres would be allowed to leave after 10 days and spend the remaining four days’ quarantine at home. If it is hotel quarantine, the traveller would be permitted to leave the hotel after seven days and be in home quarantine for the other seven days. Returning business travellers, who have spent less than 96 hours outside Sri Lanka or travelled in a foreign country’s bubble, will be permitted to quarantine themselves at home for five to seven days. After the fifth or seventh day, they would be required to take a PCR test with the area public health inspector (PHI) before being allowed to roam free. If a business traveller has spent over 96 hours outside Sri Lanka, there will be a PCR test conducted on the traveller upon landing at the airport. If this test is negative, the traveller can go home and undergo five days of home quarantine before taking another PCR test for confirmation. As The Morning exclusively reported on Tuesday (16), travellers who arrive in Sri Lanka 14 days after being fully vaccinated with the required number of doses, will be permitted to take a PCR test and submit the result to the authorities, and if the result is negative, they will be allowed to travel within the island without a bio bubble. All diplomatic travellers will be exempted from quarantine requirements.
