Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said last Sunday (13) that an integrated plan should be implemented immediately to address the issues of the human-elephant conflict in the country.
Premadasa said that Sri Lanka ranked second globally in the number of human deaths due to the human-elephant conflict and first in elephant fatalities, according to statistics presented to the Committee on Public Accounts.
“This is a sad and unacceptable situation which needs to be addressed immediately through the implementation of an integrated and overarching human-elephant conflict mitigation plan. I hope the relevant authorities possess the requisite political will and conviction to embark on this urgent programme,” he said in a series of tweets.
