The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has issued guidelines to police officers engaged in duties related to the 2020 general election.
The relevant guidelines have been sent to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The main objective of these guidelines is to make police officers aware of action that has to be taken to protect fundamental rights during elections, the HRCSL noted.
In addition to the IGP, the guidelines were sent to the Election Commission (EC) and the National Police Commission (NPC).
