Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena arrived at the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry despite having been informed that the recording of his statement had been postponed.
Asked by reporters as to why he had arrived at the Sports Ministry today, he said, "The Sports Ministry had informed my lawyers that I have been summoned before the Special Investigations Unit today. However, the Sports Ministry at around 11 pm last night informed me that I would not be summoned today (3) and that a new date would be given to me to record a statement."
Jayawardena said, this morning he had seen certain media reports claiming that he had informed the Sports Ministry that he was unable to attend the session due to personal reasons..
"I wanted to clear the air surrounding this claim, so I thought I would come to the Sport Ministry speak to the officials."
"I respect the sport very much and I am willing to coorperate with any investigation. I request all media to inquire from me before news is published."
