Many people expected me to be a military ruler, I can be like that. Whereas I am not like that and I don't want to rule a country like that says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He made this statement during a media brief yesterday (06) after the inauguration of newly developed roads in Sri Lanka. "People voted for me expecting me to be a military ruler. I can be like that and grab people by the scrub of their necks like an army officer, whereas I am not like that and I don't want to rule the country like that. Some people said that democracy will die if I come to power, but I don't like to use force like that," said the President. He added that under the 'Good Governance' Government, the former President and Prime Minister used to travel with a large entourage. Whereas, President Rajapaksa said that he wanted to be the change in the country. "When I attended the United Nations' conference, I stayed at a regular hotel. My wife joined me and I paid for her air-ticket and her hotel stay. Only 7 people travelled with me. Some tell me that previous presidents stayed at luxury hotels. I did not do that. We need to make a change," said the President.
