A heated situation arose in Parliament this morning (08) due to a statement made by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, saying that he too faced the same fate as Ranjan Ramanayake.
There was a heated exchange of words between Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka. Sarath Fonseka stated, “I was sentenced by the Army in a court. I was imprisoned for 8 months and was in remand custody. When that sentence was handed down we appealed to 3 courts. Despite all three appeals, the Speaker who has been sitting here since the day I was sentenced did not allow me to come to Parliament. “ Minister Chamal Rajapaksa responded to the allegation stating, “I allowed you to come to Parliament. Your decision was made after considering the decision in the books. Were we not allowed to convene the Parliament because you were not present?"
