If Finance Minister sometimes exits Parliament, it is to benefit the country: Speaker

22 Nov 2021

The Finance Minister’s presence is valuable during the budget debates, but if he is not in attendance, it is because he has other commitments which would benefit the country says Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana. He made this statement during a media briefing yesterday (21). "There might be instances when the Finance Minister might not be able to attend parliament due to various reasons. Even today I am unable to attend parliament. This is because we have commitments as well which is equally important," he said. He also added that as a tradition the Finance Minister should generally be in attendance during the budget debate, but if he is unable to attend the sessions, it is because of a reason. "The Finance Minister is the minister with the most amount of work in the country," Abeywardana stated.
