IGP must go home says State Minister

State Minister Sriyani Wijewickrama has called for the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara saying he did not have the confidence of the entire Government.

Wijewickrama said that a new IGP must be appointed and investigations into an alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa must be carried out.

Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) Director, DIG Nalaka de Silva is being investigated over the allegations.

DIG Nalaka de Silva was this week transferred to the IT division of the Police pending the conclusion of the investigations.

Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara told Parliament yesterday that investigations into the allegations are ongoing and activist Namal Kumara, who had made the revelation, had been questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
