IGP summoned before Government Analyst

13 Jan 2019

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has been summoned before the Government Analyst to obtain a sample of his voice as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Sources said that the IGP was summoned tomorrow (Monday) to obtain his voice sample. When contacted by The Sunday Morning the Police Media Unit said it was not aware of the notice given to the IGP. The Government Analyst will look to verify if the voice of the IGP matches voices stored in the mobile phone of activist Namal Kumara. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had recently recovered deleted conversations from Kumara’s phone with the assistance of the Government Analyst and experts from Hong Kong. A special team from the CID visited Hong Kong as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena. The CID team was in Hong Kong to recover the voice recordings related to the case, deleted from the mobile telephone of Kumara. Kumara had revealed details of the plot to kill the President following a telephone conversation he had with former Terrorist Investigations Department (TID) DIG Nalaka de Silva. However, it was later revealed that there was no mention of the alleged plot in the recordings recovered from Kumara’s phone.
