IGP tells PSC, President pushed him to transfer key investigator

06 Jun 2019

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara told the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) on the Easter Sunday attacks today that he was under pressure from President Maithripala Sirisena to transfer a key investigator. Jayasundara claimed that President Sirisena wanted him to transfer IP Nishantha Silva of the CID. The IGP claimed the President wanted the transfer as IP Silva was investigating key cases, specifically that of the abduction of 11 Tamil youth in which the current Chief Defense Staff is an accused.
