A new unit, "Illegal Assets Investigations Division" has been setup under Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to Western Province Senior DIG, Deshabandu Tennakoon the Unit has been setup to probe assets of those involved in crime.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the Illegal Assets Investigations Division to deal with the full-time confiscation of immovable and movable property and money earned through various rackets and narcotics under the Money Laundering Act.
