IMF chief, EU welcome staff- level agreement

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said she is very pleased that IMF staff and Sri Lankan Government officials have reached a staff-level agreement to support the country’s economic policies with a 48-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF) of about $ 2.9 billion. “This is an important step forward for Sri Lanka,” she said in a Twitter message yesterday (4). The delegation of the EU to Sri Lanka also said it welcomes the staff-level agreement between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Sri Lanka. Taking to its official Twitter handle, the EU delegation said it looks forward to continuing co-operation on public finance management and green economy, including export industries. Last Thursday (1), it was announced that IMF staff and the Sri Lankan authorities have reached a staff-level agreement to support Sri Lanka’s economic policies with a 48-month arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) of about $ 2.9 billion.
