"Immigrants from other countries have returned to their homelands", SL expatriate in UAE complain

04 Mar 2021

A video has been released by a Sri Lankan expatriate serving in the UAE on social media saying that other immigrants from India, Bangladesh and Philippines have already returned to their countries while several Sri Lankans were trapped in the UAE. "All our friends from other countries serving here have gone home after a PCR test and quarantine. But we haven't, because they are charging us for hotel quarantine and registration for State flights," they said. It was revealed that 3,800 riyal had been requested from them for a state flight to Sri Lanka. "We haven't come here to work in offices and big hotels. We work in houses as servants so we cannot afford such a fee. We want justice and an affordable price for our tickets," they stated.
