Immigration and Emigration Dept. operations under strict guidelines

By Agra Ranasinghe The Department of Immigration and Emigration is to reopen today (11) and has presented a series of health and other regulations for the public who are to receive the services to follow. Department of Immigration and Emigration Media Spokesman Gayan Milinda told The Morning that any client who wishes to obtain a service from the department should strictly adhere to the health and other regulations that have been issued by the department. He further said that clients are required to make an appointment with a date and time using the following procedure issued by the department and if the client fails to arrive at the time reserved, his/her reservation will be cancelled. When reserving a date and time using the subsequent procedure, the identification number and an acknowledgement of the service obtained should be forwarded to the security personnel on arrival at the office, and only the person receiving the service is required to enter the premises. Every client should essentially adhere to the health instructions; wear a mask, wash hands, and maintain a one metre distance. Persons with a body temperature more than 98.4 F or 37°C , persons who have one or more symptoms of Covid-19, persons who have come into contact with Covid-19 patients in the last 14 days, and persons who have been for quarantined for Covid-19 are not allowed to enter the premises. The services are to be provided as follows and every client is requested to contact the respective division for the service. Acceptance of passport applications under the one-day service process will be provided from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Travel Division of the Battaramulla Head Office. Acceptance of passport applications under the normal service process will be provided from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Travel Division of the Battaramulla Head Office, which can be reserved by contacting 0707 101 060 or 0707 101 070. Alteration of passport details will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Alteration Division of the Battaramulla Head Office, and both services will be provided by the Matara Office (0415 412 212 or 0415 104 444), the Kandy regional office (0815 624 509), the Kurunegala Regional Office (0375 550 562), and the Vavuniya Regional Office (0255 676 344) as well. Registration of citizenship (duties related to dual citizenship or registration under Section 5 (2) of the Citizenship Act) will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Citizenship Division of the Battaramulla Head Office. Duties related to citizenship of persons of Indian/Chinese origin will be carried out from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Policy Division of the Battaramulla Head Office and clients can make reservations by contacting 0717 009573. Verification of information in a data page of the passport will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Overseas Mission Division of the Battaramulla Head Office (0115 329 233 or 0115 329 235 should be contacted). Arabic translation of a passport data page and the related endorsements will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the Overseas Mission Division of the Battaramulla Head Office (contact 0115 329 233 or 0115 329 235). Extension of visit visas and residence visas of the foreigners who are currently staying in Sri Lanka will be carried out from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and to make a reservation, clients may visit https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs. The validity period of all types of visas has been extended for another period of 30 days with effect from 12 May 2020 to 11 June 2020. Applicants shall pay the relevant visa fee and get the visa endorsed in the passport by securing an appointment via the above link on or before 11 June 2020. If there is any difficulty in booking the dates as above, clients are requested to seek help through the number 0707 101 050 which will be operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. only. Border control activities of approved ports – 24-hour service officers have been deployed at the Ports to carry out immigration and emigration activities in accordance with government policy decisions. Providing travel details – dispatching of passports from Sri Lanka through a third party will be done from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Ports Division of the Battaramulla Head Office and clients are requested to make reservations through 0777 782 505. Obtaining passports printed under the normal service at the Battaramulla Head Office will be provided from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Postal Division of the Battaramulla Head Office (contact 0115 329 245 or 0716 886 121). Further information about obtaining services can be found on the department’s website http://www.immigration.gov.lk/ and clients should bring all the necessary documents to obtain the services.
