Delivering on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s election manifesto “Vistas of Prosperity”, the inaugural ceremony of the 1,000 New National Schools establishment programme will be held at the Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya today (7) at 10.30 a.m, under the patronage of the President, the President’s Media Division (PMD) announced yesterday (6).
Through this programme, the total number of national schools in Sri Lanka will cross the existing limit of 373 and become 1,000 national schools to cover all the divisional secretariats with a high level of physical development and human development, according to the PMD statement.
The event will see the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Leader of the House of Parliament and Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena, Uva Province Governor A.J.M.Muzammil, and State Ministers Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Vijitha Berugoda, Piyal Nishantha de Silva, and Dr. Seetha Arambepola among other dignitaries.
In parallel to the inaugural ceremony “Nidahas Dahasak”, the following nine schools in the nine provinces were consecrated yesterday:
- Western Province – Science College of Mount Lavinia
- Uva Province – Siyambalanduwa Central College of Monaragala
- Northern Province – Palai Central College of Kilinochchi
- North Central Province – Thambuththegama Central College of Anuradhapura
- North Western Province – D.S. Senanayake Central College of Kurunegala
- Central Province – Panvila Rajasinghe Central College of Wattegama, Kandy
- Sabaragamuwa Province – Central College of Kuruwita, Rathnapura
- Eastern Province – Mahadivulwewa Maha Vidyalaya of Trincomalee North
- Southern Province – Puhulwella Central College of Matara
