Inclement weather affects citizens islandwide

BY Dinitha Rathnayake Extremely high levels of rainfall experienced over the past few days including floods and elsewhere, high winds, have affected 10 districts and 41 divisional secretariats (DSs), 1,444 families, and 5,790 persons, in the country, and have caused losses of life, injuries, and property damages, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Director General Maj. Gen. S. Ranasinghe said. Briefing the media on the current disaster situation yesterday (2), he noted that 1,444 families have been affected by the disaster situation and that 5,790 people have been affected. “Four deaths have been reported and at least two were injured.” With regard to property damages, he added that there were three complete house damages and 409 partial house damages reported. “There will be a slight change in the weather in the next few days. Relief has been provided to those affected.” According to Ranasinghe, three relief centres are operational. The focus is on providing disaster relief for the damages. The Disaster Management State Ministry has already taken all measures to ensure public safety. The armed forces, the Police, and the Civil Defense Force (CDF) have been deployed to repair the damages.
