Heat Index to reach ‘Extreme Caution’ level
The Department of Meteorology indicates that the Heat Index will reach “Extreme Caution” level at some places in the North Western and North Central Provinces and the Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Gampaha, and Colombo Districts today (15).
However, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur over most places of the country in the evening or night and will likely enhance thunderstorm activity in the evenings. Certain parts of the Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces will likely experience rainfall above 100 mm in the evening.
The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning activity and localised strong winds during thundershowers.
