India to contribute $10 m for SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has proposed to contribute $10 m for a COVID-19 Emergency Fund for SAARC countries.

The fund will be based on voluntary contributions from SAARC member countries.

Modi suggested the formation of an emergency fund when leaders of the SAARC member countries discussed, today, over video conferencing ways to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime Minister of India also suggested that a common Research Platform be created, to coordinate research on controlling epidemic diseases within the South Asian region with the coordination of the Indian Council of Medical Research.
