India Women’s cricket team here in September
Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday, 28 August, announced the itinerary of the tour of Indian Women’s national cricket team, which is to take place in September. The team is expected to be here on 7 September.
The Indian Women’s team will meet their Sri Lankan counterparts in three One-day Internationals and five T20 Internationals, to be held in Galle, Katunayake and Colombo.
According to International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 23 July 2018 world rankings, India are in the fourth place with 112 rating points. Sri Lanka Women are in the eighth place with 62 points.
An experienced women’s cricketing nation, India first played in women’s cricket World Cup in 1979 and became runners-up, their best achievement in that tournament so far, in 2005 and 2017.
In Women’s World T20 organised by the ICC, they have finished as semi-finalists in 2009 and 2010.
Sri Lanka Women have been playing in the 50-over Women’s World Cup since 1997 and becoming fifth in the 2013 edition was their best performance in it.
In Women’s World T20, they have suffered first-round exits in years 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
