Indian Army Chief in Trinco today

The visiting Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army (COAS) General Manoj Mukund Naravane together with a five-member delegation including his spouse made a field visit to Trincomalee this morning (16) as part of his five-day long goodwill tour in Sri Lanka.

A statement on the same from Sri Lanka Army detailed that Major General Channa Weerasuriya, the Commander Security Forces – East, together with Mrs Dhanusha Weerasuriya, extended a warm reception to the visiting Indian Army Chief of the Army Staff, his spouse and the delegation on arrival at the SLAF Base China Bay.

Afterwards, the visiting Indian Army Chief arrived at the 4th Mile Post, Trincomalee and the former Governor’s Bungalow to refresh his past memories during the 1987 deployment of IPKF in Sri Lanka, in which General Mukund Naravane served as one of the ground commanders at that time to fight against LTTE terrorism.

Before leaving Trincomalee, he visited the Nilaweli Beach Hotel where the Indian Army Chief and his spouse exchanged symbolic mementoes with the Commander Security Forces - East and Mrs Dhanusha Weerasuriya to mark his memorable visit to Trincomalee respectively and finally, he was invited to pen a few words in the Visitors' Book.
