Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was indicted in the Colombo High Court today over the Rajagiriya accident of 2016.
He was indicted on charges of reckless driving and failure to prevent an accident and the indictments were read out in open court and handed over to the accused.
When case was taken up before High Court Judge Namal Wellala today, the counsel who appeared for MP Ranawaka said that his senior counsel intends to file a preliminary objection stating that the High Court has no jurisdiction to hear these allegations.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared for the complainant, said that such an objection could be made at the outset of the case.
However, after listening to the submissions, the Judge ordered to file preliminary objections on April 27 and postponed the hearing.
