 Indo-Lanka talks: Positive progress on debt relief

By Skandha Gunasekara The bilateral talks between India and Sri Lanka on the debt moratorium are progressing, The Morning learnt.  “The discussion on the debt moratorium is progressing successfully and a recent meeting was held,” Indian High Commission Second Secretary and Central Public Information Officer Neha Singh told The Morning. Virtual meetings between Sri Lankan representatives and their Indian counterparts have been scheduled to iron out the processed debt moratorium. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appealed to the international community to assist the developing countries struggling with debt burdens during the Covid-19 outbreak. Subsequently, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa made an official request to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a three-year debt moratorium for Sri Lanka.
