Indulge Desserts Co.

  • The name says it all!
Indulge Desserts Co. opened its doors in early 2019, offering the world’s favourite range of hot and cold desserts under one roof. Their menu boasts a mouthwatering selection of milkshakes, freakshakes, bubble waffles, waffles, crepes, sundaes, cakes, juices, smoothies, and hot drinks. With the use of the finest Belgian chocolate range in town, the dessert shop will change the way you view dessert. We strolled over to Indulge’s new outlet in Colpetty, and upon entering, our eyes lit up like kids at a candy shop – which isn’t entirely inaccurate. Their branch also sells a huge variety of imported chocolates as well as a selection of other imported goodies like sauces and chips. Brunch spoke to Imran Ariff, who told us that the mission at Indulge is to create an environment where you can treat yourself to enjoy authentic desserts with friends, family, and your loved ones for an unforgettable experience. “We always strive to provide our customers with the most unique range of desserts, chocolates, and unrivalled customer service.” Drinks To start off, we ordered two milkshakes off their freakshake selection: Dark Temptation Freakshake and Nutty Freakshow. Before we start, we must note that these milkshakes were huge! One could be a meal in itself. The Dark Temptation comes with Indulge’s house ice cream, Kit Kat, death by chocolate cake, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate wafer, and whipped cream. The cake was incredibly moist and decadent. The shake overall wasn’t to die for, but the cake certainly was! The Nutty Freakshow comes topped with Indulge’s house ice cream, Ferrero Rocher, Kinder Bueno, belgian chocolate sauce, nougat, chocolate wafers, and whipped cream. Definitely any chocoholic’s dream; we particularly enjoyed it because – and this may come as a shock – it actually was not as sweet as we expected! The nutty undertones blended into the shake gave it a nice balance and we could not get enough. Both milkshakes had very generous dollops of whipped cream that was quite thick, which is our personal preference. They do offer regular milkshakes as well, for those who would want to opt for something lighter. Desserts In our opinion, the highlight of Indulge is their customisability. When we opened the menu, we were blown away by the sheer number of choices and combinations we could go for. Personally, I’m one of those irritating people who can never decide on what they want to eat. Luckily for indecisives like us, Indulge has options already paired with the best combination. One can pick from an option of three bases: crepe, waffle, bubble waffle, as well as a combination of three sauces: Belgian milk chocolate, Belgian white chocolate, Belgian dark chocolate, Belgian caramel, Belgian ruby, and Nutella. We opted for the Bueno Indulgence as a bubble waffle topped with the Belgian white, dark, and ruby. The only unfortunate aspect we can note is that the waffle wasn’t as crispy or as warm as we’d like. Nevertheless, it certainly was a feast on the eyes; indulgence is the right word to describe this masterpiece. It comes with vanilla ice cream that’s made in-house, along with crushed pieces of Kinder Bueno, which happens to be my favourite chocolate. For those of you who don’t know, ruby chocolate is made from the ruby cocoa bean which has an intense fruity taste and a characteristic pinkish colour. We didn’t know either, but the staff at Indulge were nice enough to give us a small cup of ruby sauce to taste. The ruby sauce offered a sensorial delight, a totally new taste experience – neither bitter, milky, nor sweet, but rather a tension of fresh berry fruitiness and luscious smoothness. We had the brilliant idea of mixing it in with the ice cream, which was an otherworldly experience: There’s an explosion of flavour on your tongue. Indulge also has a Ruby Indulgence option that comes with chocolate brownie pieces, strawberries, Belgian ruby sauce, Belgian dark sauce, and Indulge’s house ice cream (we didn’t get to try it, but we’re sure it’ll be incredible). Savouries For a cafe that focuses mainly on and markets themself for their desserts, Indulge certainly does know how to work with flavours for a gourmet dish. Not that we had anything over the top: Simply the cheesy tandoori chicken crepe, nachos, and the cheesy fries, but we couldn’t fault a single dish. We also liked the fact that, similar to their dessert menu, they had the option of choosing from the three bases. To be frank, I’m not the biggest fan of the texture of nachos, and we won’t lie, the nachos at Indulge were in no way the traditional rendition of a nacho. These tasted more like Doritos, but personally, I loved it. It comes topped with an amazing cheesy sauce that, we were told, is made with cheddar: It was warm, gooey, and mouth-wateringly good. We don’t know what else was in that sauce, but we were instantly addicted. The fries were just regular fires, but they also came topped with the same cheesy sauce, so obviously it was a hit. One cannot go wrong with a combination of tandoori chicken and cheese, but unlike the previous two, our love for cheese was not satisfied – it was creamy, but could’ve used a more generous helping of cheese. Other than that, the crepe was fantastic; again, not the traditional brown crepe, it was similar to a Sri lankan-style pancake, but the combination worked. It could have used a tad more spice though.
