Industrial city to be built in Attanagalla

Policy approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted to establish the Green Industrial City in a 194-acre land, belonging to both Attanagalla and Warakapola Divisional Secretariat areas. The combined proposal was made by the Minister of Lands and the Minister of Industries. The Green Industrial City is planned to cover both Gampaha and Kegalle districts and is part of the Land Reforms Commission named "Pethiyakanda Watta". The priority will be given to the manufacture and assembly of electrical and electronic components, packaging materials, value added agricultural products, rubber and plastic based products, manufacture and assembly of apparel, pharmaceuticals and related products. At present, 32 industrial cities are operational throughout the country under the Ministry of Industry. Approximately Rs. 36,500 m has been invested in these industrial cities by private investors while the government has expended around Rs. 4517 m for the infrastructure development of these industrial cities. The number of job opportunities created through the development of cities is approximately 18,600.
