Initiate a probe into Pandora revelations if not guilty, SJB MP tells Govt.

05 Oct 2021

Bringing up the revelations contained within the Pandora Papers in Parliament today (05), Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Thushara Indunil Amarasena requested the Government to conduct a probe into the matter if they are not guilty. "The Rajapaksa surname keeps popping up repeatedly when frauds are brought up. Namal Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, it has become a trend,” remarked Amarasena. He also stated that the alleged fraudulent transactions conducted by Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Thirukumar Nadesan amounted to Rs. 35,000 million. “This is not a small amount. This is 168 million US dollars. If this was converted to Sri Lankan rupees, this would amount to Rs 35,000 million. This is what one member in one family has done for herself. The Rajapaksa name is on global news, yet this family has no shame. Even if the Rajapaksa family used 1 million rupees per month, they have enough funds for the next 250 years. If the Rajapaksa family spent Rs 100,000 daily, the funds accumulated can be used for 900 years,” he charged. Several Government MP’s hooted at Amarasena while he was making this statement. In response, the SJB MP stated that those who cause such disruptions in Parliament are "defending" the wrong doers because they have also been "fed" by this money.
