An injunction order was issued today against the Ministry of Health preventing the appointment of interns for the State hospitals.The order was issued by the three-judge bench comprising of Justice Prasanna Jayawardena, Justice Thurairajah and Justice Preethi Padman Soorasena.
The Ministry of Health had decided to absorb an intake of interns while excluding graduates of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
The SAITM graduates have been given a Supreme Court directive to be registered provisionally by the Sri Lankan Medical Council (SLMC) however, SLMC has thus far defied the Supreme Court directive and a contempt of court case was filed in the appeal courts by PC Romesh de Silva appearing on behalf of the SAITM medical graduates
