Tania Tahang is the baker behind Cravings Cakery and a mommy to a little girl. Her life revolves around baking and balancing her personal life with her toddler. With over 24,000 followers on her Instagram page, she has made quite the name for herself in the baking industry and has established her brand as reliable, delicious, and of the highest quality. We caught up with Tania for a chat on her journey to baking.

What made you want to start baking?
It was back in 2014, while I was pursuing my career in teaching. One of my friends suggested I start baking as a business since I used to bake various treats for everyone at home. Back then, cake wasn’t as popular as it is now, so I was reluctant at first. After discussing with my family, I decided to start Cravings Cakery, and six years down the line, here I am.
What or who was your inspiration?
One of my aunts who always used to bake all of our family cakes. I remember I used to watch her making cakes and was waiting to lick any remaining cake batter off the pans and spoons.
Most importantly, thanks to my sweet tooth, I used to try out new recipes for desserts. I love making desserts!
How are you managing with the pandemic?
The pandemic has definitely been a struggle, both emotionally and mentally. I don’t think anyone expected such a situation, and I really hope things get better soon.
But Cravings Cakery has been surviving with God’s grace and people still want to eat and buy cakes regardless of the situation. So, a special thank you to all my customers who have always supported Cravings Cakery to get to where it is today.
What were some of the challenges you faced?
Oh, I have faced so many challenges from cake disasters to customer complaints, because most of my creations are self-learnt. It’s definitely not an easy journey when you start something of your own, but as my mom always says, the challenges are what makes you stronger and better.
What is your best-selling item and do you offer personalised products?
Yes, we actually make customised cakes and other edible goodies as well, so we specialise in personalised cakes.
Customers love my rich chocolate cake with chocolate ganache.
What was the most challenging and most interesting cake structure you had to make?
I once had to make this massive wedding structure which took me around five to six days to put together. It had around six to seven tiers and a lot of gumpaste roses. It was easily about six feet in height, but I loved creating it! There’s a special kind of happiness when you see your creation put together and in one piece.
Do you plan to introduce more items to your menu?
For now, we mainly focus on cakes since that is what we specialise in, but I also do have other items such as the trending piñata heart, geo hearts, cakesicles, cupcakes, and cookies.
What are your future plans?
Right now, I just want to continue at the same pace and not add any additional commitments because being a working mom is not easy. Maybe when my little one is a little bigger, we will make plans to upgrade Cravings Cakery.
