In a statement to mark World News Day, United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara made a statement condemning the investigations carried out on media personnel and referred to such processes as “unethical”.
"The entitlement of a free media system was passed by the UNP in Parliament. So far, many journalists, editors and whistle-blowers have been summoned to the CID. Such investigations are not practiced ethically anymore,” said Bandara.
He further stated that in the past there was a committee to overlook the news, whereas now the media is controlled by the country leaders.
