Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena today said that the Iranativu island has been considered as a temporary measure to bury bodies of COVID victims, and health authorities of all districts have been requested to send information on other locations to be considered as permanent burial grounds. He further stated that the circular along with the guidelines for the COVID victims’ burial in Iranativu has already been prepared.
Further, he stated that two relatives could accompany the health authorities to the place of burial and a certain time period would be provided to conduct religious and cultural rituals after the person has been deceased. He reiterated that the process of moving the bodies and the burial of the COVID dead would be done by State funds.
