Iranian technicians for Uma Oya project: Iranians sent to Karandagolla quarantine centre

Four out of the 85 Iranians who came to Sri Lanka to work on the Uma Oya development project tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday (17), the Epidemiology Unit revealed. Epidemiology Unit Director Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests carried out on the four individuals confirmed that they had contracted the virus. A total of 85 technicians arrived in Sri Lanka on a special flight from Iran, to aid in the completion of the Uma Oya development project. Upon their arrival, they were referred for PCR testing, during which the four infected persons were identified. According to the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), the group was sent to the Karandagolla special residential quarantine centre which is maintained under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Army. – Sarah Hannan
