27 Aug 2020

The contents of the report submitted by the committee appointed to look into last week's power outage is to be revealed to the public by Minister of Power Dullas Alahapperuma this week, according to the Ministry of Power. The report was prepared by a nine-member committee headed by Prof. Rahula Attalage. It was handed over to the Minister on Monday (24) and the report was submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister yesterday (26).  Speaking to The Morning, Ministry of Power Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena said the content of the report will be explained to the public by the Minister today (27) or tomorrow (28). When queried about the content, the Spokesman refused to reveal any details, saying it will be revealed by the Minister. However, it was reported that an error caused by an employee who was engaged in repairing work at the Kerawalapitiya Grid Substation is to be blamed for the countrywide power outage experienced last week. As a result of the blackout, the country experienced power cuts for a few days up until the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant, which went into shutdown mode, returned to normalcy.
