It has been decided to carry out island wide operations to arrest drivers who are under the influence of drugs.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that this decision was taken during a discussion with the Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera.
The police spokesman said that the increase in road accidents was due to drunk drivers as well as drug addicts.
Accordingly, DIG Ajith Rohana said that action would be taken in the future to arrest the drivers who were driving after consuming narcotics.
He further said that around 100,000 drunk drivers are arrested every year during the operations carried out.
