  • FSP says Wasantha Mudalige communicated such to lawyers
BY Buwanajee Coralage    Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Convenor Wasantha Mudalige has said that he will not testify to any authority unless before court, and that this is the practice that all protestors who have been arrested should follow, according to Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda. “Inter-University Students’ Federation Convenor Wasantha Mudalige has told the attorneys that unless before a court, he would refuse to provide a testimony. We would like to tell the public that this should be the stance that everyone should take,” said Jagoda. Speaking to the media yesterday (28) he said that the law of the land has proved that it cannot be used against the protestors of the “aragalaya”. Multiple attempts by the Government to oppress the protest of the public were proven futile as they lacked the legitimacy to take any legal action against the protestors, he added.  “They tried using the Antiquities Act and then the Public Property Act, which did not act out accordingly and the judges granted bail. Afterwards, they tried using a law called trespass law, which also did not work out and finally, they were reduced to trying to bring about the highway ordinance.  “Now without using the normal laws in the country, they are trying to repress the public by using extremely oppressive emergency laws and the Prevention of Terrorism Act. We would like to tell the leaders that they would not be able to oppress the public through these, and we ask the people to not be intimidated,” he stated.  Speaking further, he said that no one should be intimidated by the Prevention of Terrorism Act and other oppressive Acts put in place by this Government, and instead say everything that needed to be said before a court. He stated that acts of mental and physical torture conducted by authorities before the appearance in court should be prevented, and that all should stand together to condemn such actions.
