Jaffna airport flooding issue resolved

27 Oct 2019

The flooding issue at the Jaffna International Airport has been resolved, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General H.M.C. Nimalasiri told The Sunday Morning. He said that the airport was flooded just a few days after it was declared open as they did not anticipate heavy rains at that time. However, he assured that the issue had been rectified and they did not expect flooding at the airport again. “Soon after the airport was flooded, the authorities attended to it and within a few hours, steps were taken to rectify the situation,” Nimalasiri said. He said that the issue was with the drainage system and that it had now been fixed. “This is not the only airport which experienced such flood situations and there are so many other international airports which were flooded and therefore, operations were suspended,” he said.
