Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Jagath Kumara has made it clear to the Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera that he is not afraid of Weerasekera’s remarks which suggested that he needs disciplinary inquiry. Accordingly. Kumara said that if he is found to be guilty, he will serve his judgement without complaint. However, he noted that he will have to ‘dish out’ secrets which some ministers have kept quiet about. This comes after Kumara resigned from his post as Padukka Regional Co-ordinating Committee Chairman in protest of Weerasekera’s appointment of a new Officer-in-Charge (OIC) to the Padukka Police Station. Kumara claims that the appointment was politically motivated, and that this new OIC is a close associate of Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge. During a press conference held today (20), Kumara emphasised his loyalty to the Government, stating that when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had lost the elections, it was him who had organised a meeting in Tangalle fearlessly. “When I hosted the meeting, where were all these Ministers? Were they hiding in fear that their corruption cases would be pulled up again?” he charged. Kumara went on to state that it is those who do not know the history behind the Party that make such allegations and requests for disciplinary inquiries. “By what he is doing he thinks that he is Hitler. The ones who speak the truth are forced to have disciplinary inquiries,” said Kumara. Further condemning Weerasekera's conduct as the Minister of Public Security, Kumara stated that the Teacher-Principal protests would not have gone this far if not for the unwanted 'dragging' of teachers to quarantine facilities during the lockdown. He stated that the same goes for the monks who were 'carried' away due to protests.
