The “Joint Opposition” (JO) has decided to support the No-confidence Motion (NCM) against the Government in Parliament.

Leader of the JO and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena said that the JO party leaders had decided that the group would support the NCM presented against the Government by the JVP.

“We have decided to support the NCM of the JVP against the Government despite our party differences,” he said.

The JVP submitted the NCM on 21 May 2019 and the motion is to be taken up in Parliament on 10 and 11 June.

The NCM seeks Parliament’s approval that the House has no confidence in the Government and holds it directly responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks.

In addition, MP Gunawardena said that the JO party leaders would be holding its weekly meeting this Tuesday with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa chairing it.

He said the JO leaders would be continuing discussions regarding forming an alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

In addition, the topic of an alliance with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would also be discussed.
