JVP goes to Court against recommendations of PCoI on Political Victimization

24 Mar 2021

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today filed a case at the Court of Appeal against the recommendations issued by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on Political Victimization.

After filing the case, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the PCoI has recommended to withdraw a large number of cases that are related to fraud, corruption and crimes. “PCoI recommendations have been submitted to the Cabinet and approved. The process of withdrawing cases should be given to the Attorney General. PCoI recommendations are a blow to the judicial system of our country," MP Dissanayake stated. He said that he had been named as a respondent in some of the cases. "When looking at the way the evidence was heard in this Commission and the manner in which I was made a respondent show that the Commission has abused its power against the law and the judiciary,” he said. Member of the Central Committee Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala and Attorney-at-Law Upul Kumarapperuma were also present.
