JVP unwilling to accept any solution other than Prez’s resignation

07 Apr 2022

The people of the nation have come to a point where they are demanding for the President to resign along with the rest of his family members, and the JVP will not accept anything other than that, says Janatha Vimukthi Peramuma (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He made this statement while speaking in Parliament today (07). "When people are facing difficulties they try to solve it by themselves and in a subtle way. But now, the country has reached a point in the economic crisis where the people are demanding for the President to step down. This is when economics and politics clash. Now, as a final effort, the citizens are demanding for the President to go home. Because of these demands, over 40 MPs have decided to continue independently in Parliament. Then the Government decided to solve the problem by declaring a public state of emergency in the country, which the President himself had to revoke in a few days. With this, no solution was found to the economic crisis in the country. Therefore, just as the citizens have demanded, Gota must go home," he stated. Dissanayake further mentioned two solutions to the ongoing crisis, one of which is to urgently attend to the essential needs of the people. "Currently, there are two things that need to be done. Firstly, the President needs to heed the citizens and step down, which we all agree on. Secondly, the urgent necessities of the people need to be given to them. In a historical move for the first time in Sri Lanka, the entire cabinet resigned a few days ago. That makes no difference and the people are demanding for the President to leave. The only way forward to solve this crisis now is that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns and leaves immediately,” Dissanayake stated. He further said that once the President resigns, people and the parties will surely accept any other solution to the economic crisis.
