Kalmunai schools closed until further notice; three areas to be isolated
Schools in Kalmunai will be closed until further notice while three areas in Ampara will be isolated as a measure to prevent spread of COVID-19, the Eastern Province Governor said.
Governor Anuradha Yahampath said 10 people tested positive for COVID-19 during random PCR tests that were carried out in Akkaraipattu yesterday.
“We got the results today. Since 10 people were positive, we thought it was better to take precautions and close the schools as well as lockdown or isolate three areas of Akkaraipattu, Addalaichenai and Adialiwembu. One of the main reasons to do this was these areas are highly populated,” she told The Morning.
She said most of the students come from the three identified areas and therefore, the schools will be closed for a while.
“We decided to take precautions as early as possible like we have done before, to prevent spread of COVID-19,” she said.
