Kamala Harris receives COVID vaccine, says 'I trust the science'

29 Dec 2020

US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff on Tuesday received their first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, dpa news reported. "I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine," Harris, 56, said after receiving her injection. "Literally, this is about saving lives. I trust the science, and it is the scientists who created and approved this vaccine." The vaccine, created by the company Moderna, was administered at the United Medical Center in Washington. It requires two doses to be maximally effective. Other top public officials, including president-elect Joe Biden and current Vice President Mike Pence, previously received doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, the first to be rolled out in the US. Biden and Harris take their oaths of office on January 20 after defeating President Donald Trump in the November 3 election, denying him a second term in the White House. Trump, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 in October, has yet to be administered a coronavirus vaccine.
