Kandy Musings: Channa Pathirana President of the Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage

Channa Pathirana comes in as the President of the Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage (OTRS), for the third time, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held  last  Saturday (4) via Zoom. Due to pandemic and safety reasons. Channa Pathirana and the able committee give their best for the game. During his playing days Pathirana was a knowledgeable forward and in 1988 played under the captaincy of Bindu Dandeniya while some of his team-mates of that year were Rohan Ranaraja, Thaksala Hettiarachchi, Shammi Upendra, Anuruddha Abeywickrema, Prabath Harshakumara, Manjula Wijesinghe, Samantha Ratwatte, Noel Abrahams, Riza Odayar, Suren Ching, Krishantha Bandaranayake, Sardha Attanayake, Yohan Wijetilleke, and Nilanka Nanayakara. In 1989, he played a few games for Kandy Sports Club as a schoolboy and had to keep away from rugby due to higher studies. The two Vice Presidents are Ashan Ratwatte and Thakshila Hettiarachchi. Susith Anock is the Secretary and the Treasurer is Asanka Ranhoti. The Committee - N.L.K. Ratnayake, S.W. Chang,  Amil Ramanadan, Janinda Dunuwille, Duminda de Silva, Nishantha Wickramage, Lakmal Tennakoon, Madushanka Ranathunga, Lochana Giragama, Murad Ramzeen, B.N.R. Fernando, Ryle Madena, and Rashen Bandaranayake, and the Patron is Pincipal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara. The OTRS is an organisation affiliated to the Old Boys' Association of Trinity College, Kandy and manages rugby across all age groups at the school under the guidance of the Principal. It remains responsible in the areas of management, administration, and coaching of rugby at Trinity. From the day, they started this Scrummage; it has been good for Trinity rugby in all forms of the game. The main object of the Scrummage is to promote the advancement and progress of rugby, within the means of the rugby Scrummage, in concurrence with the Principal, to enlist the support of the former rugby players of the school to Trinity College, foster fellowship among all former players, and to raise funds in support of Trinity rugby.
